Biography
Franzisca Siegrist is a visual artist born in Switzerland in 1984, raised in Spain (Canary Islands) and is based in Oslo, Norway, while working internationally. Her practice explores questions of identity, belonging, and diaspora, the sense of home and the social norms that surround it. Drawing on her own background and lived experience, she examines how these themes manifest in contemporary society, inviting audiences to reflect on how these topics intertwine with the human condition: how living between shifting territories generates a permanent state of negotiation with belonging. She is interested in the tension between movement and rootedness, between the desire to belong and the inevitable experience of displacement.

Her practice is based in performance art and extends to installations, objects, photography, and video, all approached from a performative perspective. The works are often physically demanding, site-responsive, evoking imagery that is poetic, visceral, and subtly absurd. Since 2016, she has been developing long-term, series-based projects in which each work shares a common title, conceptual foundation, and evolving visual language. The series have been titled Route of Roots (2026-2019), Sculptural abstractions (2019-2022), Δx=xf−x0 (displacement) (2022-2025), and Interstitial Spaces (2025-). Together, they form an ongoing inquiry into what it means to inhabit a body, a place, or a society in a world of constant transformation.

Her work has been exhibited in museums, galleries, and art spaces, as well as in artist-run spaces and international festivals, across 20 countries in Europe, Asia, and America. Notable venues include BIENALSUR 2025, Buenos Aires (AR); EXTRA festival, Ex Teresa de Arte Actual, Mexico City (MX); Supermarket Art Fair, Stockholm (SE); CCCC Centre del Carmen, Valencia (ES); Museo La Neomudejar, Madrid (ES); Bærum Kunsthall (NO); Trafo Kunsthall, Asker (NO); La Regenta Art Center, Las Palmas de Gran Canarias (ES); TEA - Tenerife Espacio de las Artes (ES); Kjerringøy Land Art Biennale 2018 (NO); Høstustillingen - The National Art Exhibition, Kunstnernes Hus, Oslo (NO); UP-ON Festival, Sichuan University Art Museum, Chengdu (CN); Østlandsutstillingen - Annual East Norway Exhibition, Østfold Art Center, Fredrikstad (NO); Museo Vostell Malpartida (ES); NOosphere Arts, NYC (USA); Le Generateur, Paris (FR); Grace Exhibition Space, NYC (USA).

Siegrist has a Master’s (equivalent) in Fine Arts from the University of La Laguna and a Master’s in Artistic Production from the Polytechnic University in Valencia. She studied performance art under the Spanish artist Bartolomé Ferrando, and has in addition pursued further performance courses.
